Arbors at Westbury Thriller Halloween 2018
Halloween is a very serious ordeal at the Arbors and my all time favorite holiday. As the Recreation Director for the community, that meant it was my show to produce. I still remember when my boss called me into a meeting to discuss the theme for the 2018 year. I almost fell off my chair when he said ¨You may think this is too extreme but I´ve always wanted to do Michael Jackson´s Thriller¨. I immediately stood up and said Amen, for I was a professional zombie and I could do the Thriller dance in my sleep.
Getting the opportunity to put together this production for the residents was truly magical for all of us, especially for me; choreographing this number and getting together to secretly practice in the alley behind the building was priceless . For some of my co-workers, this was the first time they had ever learned a dance and done a performance in full costume. My boss went to Bed, Bath and Beyond on his lunch break to buy a pillow just because he wanted to show off the zombie make-up I did. And the residents were so unbelievably happy to be a part of it. The elderly don´t just want to watch from the sides, they want to be included in the show too.
